Tigersharks Kick Off 2019 Season With Win Over Penguins

    On Saturday, July 1, the Sewanee Tigersharks hosted the Winchester Penguins in their first meet of the 2019 summer league season. They defeated the Penguins by a score of 320 to 237.

    Three swimmers set new team records at the meet. Anara Summers (9) set a new 9-10 Girls’ 25 M Breaststroke record with a time of 22.22, breaking Loulie Frazier’s record-setting time of 22.62 from the 2018 season. Meanwhile, Frazier (11) set two new team records in the 11-12 Girls’ category; her time of 36.41 in the 50 M Backstroke broke Helen Wilson’s 2008 time of 38.43, while her time of 1:24.54 in the 100 IM broke Emily Blount’s 2008 time of 1:25.17. KiranMalde (10), set two new records in the 9-10 Boys’ category; his time of 34.38 in the 50 M Freestyle broke Zach Blount’s 2004 time of 34.42, and his time of 19.63 in the 25 M Backstroke broke Jackson Frazier’s time of 20.45 set in 2016.

    The team had a great meet, with 17 swimmers finishing first in one or more individual events. Taking home first place in all 3 individual events were Loulie Frazier in the Girls’ 11-12 50 M Backstroke, 100 IM, and 50 M Butterfly (38.77); Konrad Knoll (8) in the Boys’ 8 & U 25 M Freestyle (17.58), 100 IM (1:45.70), and 25 M Backstroke; Reese Michaels (13) in the Girls’ 13-14 50 M Freestyle (34.03), 50 M Breaststroke (44.97), and 100 IM (1:29.28); and Anara Summers in the 50 M Freestyle (37.68), 25 M Breaststroke, and 25 M Butterfly (18.51). Taking home two first places finishes were Arabella Barry (6) in the Girls’ 6 & U 25 Freestyle (35.97) and 25 Backstroke (35.09); Cooper Knight (6) in the Boys’ 6 & U 25 Freestyle (28.55) and 25 Backstroke (36.72); Zolon Knoll (15) in the 15-18 Boys’ 50 M Breaststroke (38.13) and 100 IM (1:07.58); Archer Ladd (8) in the Boys’ 8 & U 25 M Breaststroke (28.18) and 25 M Butterfly (26.87); Kiran Malde in the 9-10 Boys’ 50 M Freestyle and 25 M Backstroke; and Millie Roberts (8) in the Girls’ 8 & U 25 M Freestyle (24.25) and 25 M Butterfly (38.25). Additional swimmers who finished first in one individual events included Lily Camp (8 & U Girls 25 M Breaststroke), AJ Clements (13-14 Boys’ 50 M Backstroke), Zoey Craft (15-18 Girls’ 100 IM), Vaeh Crosby (8 & U Girls’ 25 M Backstroke), Sam Goodpaster (11-12 Boys 100 IM), Dora Pate (9-10 Girls 25 M Backstroke), and Verena Pate (13-14 Girls’ 50 M Butterfly).

    Competing in their first swim meet were four new Tigershark swimmers: Jaden Gipson, Alexandre Glacet, Arthur Glacet, and Sara Roberts.

    The Sewanee Tigersharks swim at home again on Tuesday, June 18 when they host McMinnville at 5:15 pm at the Fowler Center Natatorium.
