​Sewanee Tigersharks Defeat Shelbyville Sharks in Home Opener

    On June 3, the Sewanee Tigersharks hosted the Shelbyville Sharks in the first home swim meet of the 2023 summer league season. Despite being evenly matched in terms of swimmer numbers, the Tigersharks prevailed over the Sharks by a score of 314 to 262.

    Relays proved the deciding factor in the meet, with the Sewanee Tigersharks taking first in 9 out of 14 relays as follows:

    Exceptional swims were achieved by multiple swimmers who earned first place in all of their individual events: 5 year old Bryson Barnes in the 6 & Under Boys’ 25 Free (50.52) and 25 Back (41.00); 12 year old Konrad Knoll in the 11-12 Boys’ 50 Free (32.04), 100 IM (1:21.62), and 50 Butterfly (36.45); 13 year old Anara Summers in the Girls 13-14 100 IM (1:12.21), 50 Backstroke (34.84), and 50 Butterfly (33.64); Eli Summers in the 9-10 Boys 100 IM (1:41.30), 50 Backstroke (21.06), and 25 Butterfly (21.71); and 14 year old Will Terrell in the 13-14 Boys 50 Breaststroke (37.13), 100 IM (1:12.27), and 50 Butterfly (31.31). Additional swimmers who earned first place in at least one individual events included Sawyer Barry in the 13-14 50 Boys 50 Free (34.52), Suzy Camp in the 8 & U 100 IM (2:50.36) and 25 Butterfly (33.07), Asher Kavur in the 11-12 Boys 50 Breaststroke (44.03) and 50 Backstroke (41.80), Kyla Kilgore in the 11-12 Girls 50 Breaststroke (53.60), Cooper Knight in the 9-10 Boys 25 Breaststroke (25.30), Aralyn Ladd in the 6 & U Girls 25 Backstroke (40.69), Leah Moody in the 13-14 Girls 50 Freestyle (38.79), Sam Ramirez in the 8 & U 25 Freestyle (28.52), Will Roberts in the 13-14 Boys 50 Backstroke (40.53), Maddie Van de Ven in the 15-18 Girls 50 Backstroke (40.41), Toby Van de Ven in the 15-18 Boys 50 Breaststroke (37.88), and Amelie Watson in the 8 & U Girls 25 Backstroke (32.48).

    Impressive time drops were achieved by multiple swimmers in comparison to last season’s best times, including Jack Robert’s 10.82 sec time improvement on the 100 IM, Sawyer Barry’s 13.08 sec time improvement on the 100 IM, and Ayden Allen’s 19.34 sec time improvement on the 50 Freestyle.

    The Sewanee Tigersharks will return to the pool again on Thursday, June 15 with a home meet starting at 5:30 pm against Tullahoma Swim Club followed shortly by another meet on Saturday, June 17 at 10:00 am against both the McMinnville Swim Team and the Marshall County Swim Team.
