​TigerSharks Victorious Over McMinnville, Lewisburg; Foiled by Shelbyville

    In recent summer league swim action, the Sewanee TigerSharks competed against the McMinnville Swim Club, the Shelbyville Swim Club, and the Marshall County Swim Club of Lewisburg. On Tuesday, June 14, the Sewanee TigerSharks Swim Team travelled to McMinnville, defeating McMinnville 361 to 167. The girls’ team earned 187 points to McMinnville’s 67 points, while the boys’ team scored 146 points to McMinnville’s 89 points. On Saturday, June 25, the TigerSharks hosted swimmers from Shelbyville Swim Club and Marshall County Swim Club in a double-­dual meet at their home pool. The TigerSharks defeated Marshall County by a score of 407 to 165 points and were defeated by Shelbyville 349 to 263 points.

    In the double-­dual meet against Shelbyville and Lewisburg, five TigerShark swimmers had exceptionally strong meets, scoring first in all 3 of their individual entries: Kate Butler (15) in 15­-18 Girls’ 50 M Freestyle (30.81), 50 M Backstroke (36.27), and 50 M Butterfly (37.04); Jackson Frazier (10) in 9­-10 Boys’ 50 M Freestyle (35.61), 25 M Breaststroke (20.34), and 100 M Individual Medley (1:31.10); Konrad Knoll (5) in Boys’ 6 & U 25 M Freestyle (26.47) and 25 M Backstroke (30.99), and 7­8 Boys’ 25 M Butterfly (34.65); Zolon Knoll (12) in 11-­12 Boys’ 100 M Individual Medley (1:17.75), 50 M Backstroke (37.81), 50 M Butterfly (35.01); and Aidan Smith (14) in 13­-14 Boys’ 50 M Freestyle (30.43), 100 M Individual Medley (1:18.20), and 50 M Butterfly (33.16). Zolon Knoll’s times in two events were fast enough to set new team records. His 50 M Butterfly time of 35.01 seconds replaced his previous team record of 35.31 seconds set on June 11 against Tullahoma Swim Club, while his 100 M Individual Medley time of 1:17.75 replaced Zach Blount’s time of 1:19.70 set in 2006 at the RACE League Championships.

    In the 100 meter Mixed Medley relays, several Sewanee TigerSharks teams took first place: the 9­-10 team of Maya Mauzy, Reese Michaels, Jackson Frazier, and Toby Van de Ven with a time of 1:28.17; the 13-­14 team of Iliana Pate, Zoey Craft, Aidan Smith, and Evan Fox with a time of 1:07.82, and the 15-­18 team of Kate Butler, Sophia Hartman, Jake Wiley, and Garrett Shaw in a particularly close race, finishing with a time of 1:04.95 in comparison to Shelbyville’s final time of 1:05.22. In the 100 M Freestyle relays, first place finishes were achieved by the 13­-14 Girls team of Luciana Mollica, Jenna Black, Sarah Grace Burns, and Zoey Craft (1:07.27); the 13­14 Boys team of Aidan Smith, Evan Fox, Harrison Hartman, and Zolon Knoll (58:70); and the 15-­18 Girls team of Anna Fox, Iliana Pate, Sophia Hartman, and Kate Butler (1:02.54).

    Many additional swimmers placed in the top 2 in one or more events including: Beau Cassell (7­-8 Boys) 2nd in 25 M Freestyle, Zoey Craft (13-­14 Girls) 1st in 50 M Breaststroke and 2nd in 50 M Backstroke and 50 M Butterfly; Anna Fox (15-­18 Girls) 1st in 50 M Freestyle and 2nd in 50 M Breaststroke and 50 M Backstroke; Evan Fox (13­-14 Boys) 1st in both 50 M Breaststroke and 50 M Backstroke and 2nd in 50 M Butterfly; Loulie Frazier (7­-8 Girls) 2nd in both 25 M Backstroke and 25 M Butterfly; Sam Frazier (6 & U Boys) 2nd in 25 M Backstroke; Harrison Hartman (13­-14 Boys) 2nd in 100 M Individual Medley; Sophia Hartman (15­-18 Girls) 2nd in both 50 M Breaststroke and 100 M Individual Medley; Maya Mauzy (9-­10 Girls) 1st in 25 M Breaststroke and 25 M Backstroke); Maddy Mendlewski (11­-12 Girls) 2nd in 50 M Breaststroke; Reese Michaels (9­-10 Girls) 2nd in both 25 M Breaststroke and 25 M Backstroke; Iliana Pate (13­-14 Girls) 2nd in 50 M Freestyle; Edie Paterson (11-­12 Girls) 1st in 50 M Backstroke; Garrett Shaw (15­-18 Boys) 2nd in 50 M Freestyle; Anara Summers (6 & U Girls) 2nd in 25 M Freestyle; Toby Van de Ven (9­-10 Boys) 1st in 25 M Butterfly; Jake Wiley (15­-18 Boys) 2ndi n 50 M Backstroke; and Stella Wilson (7­-8 Girls) 2nd in 50 M Backstroke.

    Many swimmers dropped time in one or more event in the Shelbyville­-Lewisburg meet, including 7 year old Eoin Pate, who dropped a tremendous 23.12 seconds on his 25 M Breaststroke!

    The TigerSharks take to the pool again in Winchester against the Winchester Penguins on July 7 in their last regular season contest before the RACE League Championships. The RACE League Championships will be held at the University of the South Fowler Center Natatorium on July 16.
