Tigersharks Fall to Penguins by One Point

    On Thursday, July 7, the Sewanee TigerSharks traveled to Winchester to compete against the Winchester Penguins in their final dual meet of the RACE League summer season. Competing with a small squad due to the holiday week and suffering from disqualification errors that cost them the win in a few critical events, the Sewanee TigerSharks fell to the Penguins by a one-point differential with a score of 283 to 282.

    This meet was a true team effort, with swimmers from many age groups aging up to complete as many relay teams as possible. The TigerSharks earned first place finishes in the 9-10 and 11-12 Mixed Medley Relay with a finish time of 1:37.67 by the 9-10 team of Maya Mauzy, Sara Knight, Jackson Frazier, and 7 year old Will Roberts, and a finish time of 1:07.61 by the 11-12 team of David Dolack, Edie Paterson, Zolon Knoll, and Libby Neubaurer. Additionally, the 8 & U Boys’ Freestyle Relay team of 8 year old twins Beau and Jack Cassell, and 6 year olds Sam Frazier and Konrad Knoll took 1st with a time of 1:39.68, the 8 & U Girls’ Freestyle Relay team of Sienna Barry, Sarah Brewster, Sarah Knight, and Maya Mauzy took first with a time of 1:22.79, the 11-12 Girls’ team of Stella Wilson, Libby Neubaurer, Verena Pate, and Edie Paterson finished 1st in 1:11.82, and the 13-14 Boys’ team of 13 year olds Evan Fox and Porter Neubaurer, 12 year old Zolon Knoll, and 10 year old Jackson Frazier finished first with a time of 55.75.

    Many TigerShark swimmers took first place in one or more of their individual events at the meet including: 6 & U Girls’ Anara Summers (25 Y Freestyle in 25.47), 6 & U Boys’ Sam Frazier (7-8 Boys’ 25 Y Breaststroke in 39.02) and Konrad Knoll (25 Y Freestyle in 24.08, 25 Y Backstroke in 27.86), 7-8 Girls’ Loulie Frazier (25 Y Freestyle in 18.17, 100 Y Individual Medley in 1:45.45, 25 Y Butterfly in 21.08), 7-8 Boys’ Kiran Malde (25 Y Backstroke in 23.95), 9-10 Girls’ Sara Knight (25 Y Butterfly in 29.36) and Maya Mauzy (50 Y Freestyle in 38.94 and 25 Y Backstroke in 19.23), 9-10 Boys’ Jackson Frazier (25 Y Breaststroke in 18.42, 100 Y Individual Medley in 1:22.40, 25 Y Butterfly in 17.71), 11-12 Girls’ Edie Paterson (50 Y Breaststroke in 42.69, 100 Y Individual Medley in 1:22.91, 50 Y Butterfly in 38.03), 11-12 Boys’ Zolon Knoll (50 Y Breaststroke in 37.14, 100 Y Individual Medley in 1:09.57, 50 Y Butterfly in 30.07), 13-14 Girls’ Zoey Craft (50 Y Backstroke in 36.51), 13-14 Boys’ Porter Neubaurer (50 Y Breaststroke in 38.36), and 15-18 Boys’ Jake Wiley (50 Y Butterfly in 30.52).

    The 82 swimmer-strong Sewanee TigerSharks are looking forward to having a robust squad for the RACE League Championships on Saturday, July 16 in the University of the South Natatorium when they welcome approximately 650 swimmers and their parents, coaches, and friends to the exciting conclusion of the RACE League season. RACE League Championships kick off with 10 & U events at 10:00 am, followed by 11 & Older events at around 1:30 pm at the conclusion of the morning session.
